Express Yourself Beautifully

Good chemicals, bad chemicals

So we are getting much smarter about our beauty products and what we put on our face and body. So, as there is more and more information available to us, we can be much smarter in our choices of beauty products. We are looking for greener and cleaner alternatives.

There are many out there that use the term organic loosely but to be sure you are getting a organic product best to look for the little organic label, this will let you know if the product is organic or not.

There are many products claiming to be natural also, which is fine, however, there are many ingredients that we wish to avoid even in natural products. All natural and organic products will have some form of chemicals, however there are the friendly ones and the not so friendly ones...

Unfriendly ones

Sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS)

This is what is used to make products soapy or foamy. Shampoos, shower gels and even toothpaste contain SLS. This surfactant can cause skin irritation and dryness. Look for products that have safer alternatives such as decyl glucoside or lauryl glucoside.

Parabens

These are used as a preservative and helps products last longer, they have been used for decades in cosmetics to prevent bacteria build up. If you’re looking to steer clear of products that contain parabens, opt for ones that are plant derived such as ethylhexylglycerin, or phenoxyethanol, which is another alternative to parabens, being a naturally derived ether alcohol.

Check the labels

You should always read the labels when choosing your cosmetics and skincare products, the less the ingredient list the better however, it is best to learn which products are the key ones to avoid. The ingredients list is usually listed from the highest to the lowest concentration. So make sure that if there are any chemicals listed they are at the bottom of the list!

That is why at Just Beautiful we stock only organic, natural and vegan and even gluten free cosmetics, skincare and beauty products. In addition, all are cruelty free...
